PBS SoCal’s coverage of “For Dear Life: Art, Medicine, and Disability”

I’m happy to share that my work is featured in For Dear Life: Art, Medicine, and Disability, a new episode from PBS SoCal’s PST Art: Fusing Art & Science series. This thoughtful segment explores how disability continues to shape American art and includes an in-depth look at my practice, both before and after my stroke. It features a rich selection of archival and recent images of my work.

I’m grateful to be featured alongside For Dear Life curator Jill Dawsey, whose commitment to disability representation in the arts has brought this exhibition to life. The segment also highlights my course, Art, Medicine, and Disability, which I taught as part of Disability Studies at UC Berkeley, and which was used as the subtitle for the show. The video also explores the work of many remarkable artists with disabilities, including my former students Sunaura Taylor and Sandy Yi.

This exhibition is just one part of a much larger movement toward recognizing the contributions of the beautiful spectrum of artists with disabilities. I hope that my work—both artistic and educational—can help engender a broader, more intersectional conversation, ensuring that more artists receive the visibility and support they deserve.
